I personally use the free Microsoft Security Essentials on my computer. It’s lightweight and working great! You can start the test by following the following steps:
- Start notepad: ctrl+r > type “notepad” > enter
- Copy and paste the following text into the notepad application:
X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H* - Save this text file, it doesn’t matter what name. For example test.txt
- When you get a virus warning, then your anti-virus software works fine. If you don’t get a virus warning, search for better software, for example the free Microsoft Security Essentials or the free AVG.
